Episode 7 - Out and About in Paris

This is our first week in Paris in pictures, heavily summarised and not necessarily in chronological order:

Aubervilliers is well service with  public transport - Metro lines 7 and 12 deliver us to the heart of Paris in less than 30 minutes.

We spent a lot of euros on paints, brushes and a canvas each for our holiday painting activity

After leaving the art shop we chose this bridge to cross

Crossing the Seine with our weighty purchases

Gluten free crepes. Hefty

On our way to the Pantheon

The Pantheon

The Foucault Pendulum

Many people honoured in the Pantheon crypt - a labyrinth from which I struggled to find the exit for our timed climb to the top of the Pantheon. It continued the unwanted Hotel California theme of this holiday

Marie Curie’s tomb with husband Pierre

206 steps to the top giving a fabulous 360 degree view over Paris

The Notre Dame under repair from the huge fire in April 2019

Iram has a hairdressing and beauty salon called Bollywood and it is just along the road from our home. She was very pleased with her cut and so was Therese

The trains are terrific here. Fast, reliable with never more than a couple of minutes to wait.  Good glutes are the upside to the many stairs

I’ve been conducting a study of palmiers. This is in first spot at the moment

We have sampled their jambon buerres, croissants and palmiers  and all have been beautiful
Therese misses Chiefy

Thoughtful design

Public pianos are a beautiful thing. This pianist also sang  beautifully

My quest for good walking shoes and Therese hit the jackpot.

Thank you Sandrina!

And now for the AFL Grand Final… we arrived at Cafe Oz for 6am opening.  We settled in with a good view of the large screen and there were many Sydney Swan supporters around us.  The atmosphere was buoyant! Would the Swans have their deserved win?  Nah… they just completely flopped.  And to make matters worse, we stayed around to watch the Wallabies be defeated by the All Blacks.

Next stop, Musée de Cluny to see the six Lady and the Unicorn tapestries which were woven in the 14th century. Worth reading about

This is the sixth tapestry - the enigma. See text below about that

They all seem very happy, except maybe the chained monkey

This part of the museum is dedicated to family life

Chiefly is coming along but would be further advanced were the  paint to dry. 5 days and still wet!

And wet outside

Hello Susan!

The myth of Therese cooking

Construction progress! A large development with one bedders starting at €300,000 and 4 bedders €600,000+. Not at all bad given well serviced location and a multicultural happy feeling neighbourhood.  A bargain compared to Sydney and Canberra prices.

  1. Great catalogue of photos Helen. @Therese - love the haircut and your painting, albeit not quite finished, of Chief is fantastic. You've got talent. Who knew? 😊
Where's your work of art Helen?

  2. It is on its way slowly because each layer of paint has been taking a long time to dry. Still waiting for Chiefy to dry a little more and it has been the best part of a week already… they’ll be finished at home I suspect.

Episode 11: Ussies

Neither Therese nor I had never previously noticed the term “ussies”, introduced to us in Ted Lasso. So much more accurate and fun a descrip...
