Episode 10: Out and About in Paris #2

Rodin’s garden and museum was really beautiful. This is a shot of his sculpture, The Thinker.  There are more pics from this gorgeous gallery and garden, below.

It was quite chilly out which made it pleasant for our walk along the Champs Élysées and into the Marais

In shadow - The Obelisk of Luxor at the centre of the Place de la Concorde.  The choice of the Concorde for this “gift” from Egypt erected in 1836 “…was politically expedient, because that spot was iconic and emotionally charged — not least for having been the main location of the guillotine during the French Revolution — and it was difficult to find a way to fill it in a way that would convey sufficient prestige but not inflame political passions. The obelisk matched these criteria perfectly, given its antiquity and lack of connection with French history” says Wikipedia

Gustav Caillebotte exhibition at the Musée D’Orsay was pretty good.

Last year on my Paris trip with Elaine and Kath, I met up with Mary Morrissy. On our trip to the Musée D’Orsay fabulous cafe, we stopped to admire this Caillebotte:

The glass is painted so well

Was looking at this one for how he has included several people

I really like this one for a few reasons. It reminds me of a painting I love by Una Watters called Cappagh Road. My one attempt at painting children playing at the beach viewed from above, wasn’t great. That was many years ago now. I’m going to give it another go.

The Musée D’Orsay is such a beautiful art gallery

It wasn’t hard to guess where to find Therese when I emerged from the exhibition

Yes, buy them!

  1. Glad to see Una Watters getting honorable mention. Makes me want to go and see the Caillebotte exhibition - I love that glass painting of his too!

    1. So many reminders of our brief dramatic time together in Paris last year and of the great Una Watters. She was a knock out painter. Where is Cappagh Road? It needs to be in the art gallery with Girl Passing by Trinity in the Rain 😍. I might have just unintentionally renamed that painting…
